Pianist David Brown brings 38 years of piano teaching experience to Carolina Academy of Music. He's the accompanist for the Aiken Choral Society, and music director for the Aiken Unitarian Universalist Church. He is in demand as a freelance soloist & accompanist - equally at home in the classical, jazz, and cabaret fields – and can also be found playing classic rock with “Ed Turner & Number 9.” David received his Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance from the Crane School of Music (SUNY-Potsdam), and Masters in Music and Music Education from Teachers College Columbia University. He has also studied piano privately with noted NYC teachers Robert Guralnik, Morris Borenstein and Ada Kopetz-Korf. He has served as staff accompanist at Montclair State University(NJ), and has also been a faculty member at Bergen Community College(NJ), Westchester Community College(NY), among others. David has performed extensively as a recital accompanist throughout the Hudson Valley and Catskill regions of New York State and has performed with many Broadway stage performers as a freelance piano accompanist in New York City. He has performed live classical and jazz programs on the WAMC Northeast Public Radio Network. One such performance as an accompanist in a vocal recital of works by Schubert, Debussy and Puccini prompted James Cotter from The Times Herald Record to write: "I particularly admire the way he draws colors from the piano, and provides the appropriate dramatic underpinning for each piece."
